My Book Depository Experience—Shipping to the UAE

Book Depository is an online store for book lovers. They offer FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE—no minimum order required! Isn’t that the best thing ever?!

I’ve just received my second book order and just like the first one, everything went smoothly. According to their site, shipping to the UAE will take about 3-5 days after the order has been dispatched. More information about shipping can be found here.

My Experience:

Book Title: Crooked Kingdom — Collector’s Edition by Leigh Bardugo (Hardback)
Order date: October 3, 2019
Order dispatched (from UK): October 4, 2019
Order received: October 9, 2019

Book Title: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin (Hardback)
Order date: October 12, 2019
Order dispatched (from UK): October 14, 2019
Order received: October 17, 2019

My first two purchases were both a positive experience. They delivered the books within the promised time slot. But of course it’s not all rainbows and sunshine, some things to consider are the price and the type of book cover. I noticed that Book Depository paperbacks are usually a bit more expensive than Kinokuniya (especially for a member like me), while Book Depository hardbacks are a lot cheaper than Kinokuniya’s. Which is great because I prefer seeing my paperbacks in stores so I could inspect them for any defect. Paperbacks are precious little fragile things and I can’t risk them being battered during shipping.

That being said, Book Depository is my current go-to for hardbacks, they are cheaper and I won’t have to worry much during shipping because they are sturdy af. I’d only order paperbacks from them if the editions are not available in physical bookstores here in UAE.

Of course, an experience won’t be complete without some pros and cons so, here you go:

Pros:
  • Free international shipping.
  • Fast and hassle-free transaction.
  • Delivered right on my doorstep.
  • Prompt delivery.
  • Free bookmarks!
  • Cheaper hardbacks.
  • A wide array of books to choose from.
  • Occasional discount vouchers, promo codes and price reductions.
Cons:
  • No tracking number for the shipment.
  • If you want to return a book, you will shoulder the return shipping costs.
  • It’s risky to order paperbacks since the book is only placed inside a box with no bubble wrap or whatsoever.
  • If you ordered more than one book, the books might be shipped separately.

I have read some negative experiences and lots of good ones too. At first I was really hesitant as well; what if my books never arrive? what if they do arrive but already battered and damaged? dented edges? folded pages? Just one, I said. If it’s a bad experience then I won’t order again. But fortunately, the pros outweighs the cons so I will continue to purchase books from them.

What’s your go-to store for book shopping?

    1. Hi! Thanks for reading. You can just write your complete address, specifically your flat/villa no. They deliver door to door so it’s really convenient! ^_^
